Prune

Now is the time to begin pruning.

Climbing roses need to be pruned after their spring flush of flowers.

Spring flowering shrubs cut back to reshape, also vines and trees.

 

Pest Control

Bt. is best used on Cabbage Loopersand other pillars: Bacillus thuringiensis

Fleas, ticks and chiggers: diatomatious earth, beneficial nematodes.

Aphids on tender new growth: strong sugar water blast, or garlic-pepper tea. Release lady bugs.

Release trichogramma wasps for pecan casebearers and moth larvae.

Lace bugs on azaleas, sycamores, garlic-pepper tea or Garrett Juice plus garlic.

Fire ants: Drench mounds with manure compost team molasses, and citrus oil products.

Weeds: hand remove or use mechanical devices

 

Plant

Hot weather vegetables, including southern peas, okra, and melons.    

Cannas, glads, caladiums, andother summer bulbs. Mums and other fall perennials.

Groundcovers from 2 1/4-inch or 4 inch pots.

Warm season annual color plants.

Tropical color in beds or pots: bougainvillea, mandevilla, allamanda, penta, hibiscus, and others.

 

Fertilize

Spray all growing plants with Garrett Juice.

All annual flowers and potted plants with bat guano, earthworm castings, cottonseed meal, or other 100% organic fertilizers.

 

Water

Potted plants regularly.

All planting areas deeply but infrequently during dry periods.

 

Odd Jobs

Turn compost pile and continue to add new ingredients.

Mulch all bare soil.

Mow weekly and leave clippings on the lawn.

Feed and water the birds.
